I completed the VSMT certification from the Healing Oasis in February 2010. I applied for the course as I was very interested in learning techniques to adjust animals. In the course, I also learned functional neurology and found many answers to questions I had concerning chiropractic. I have applied the principles I have learned into my human and animal practice of chiropractic and I am seeing the positive results that make practicing enjoyable. The staff at the HOWC is very knowledgeable and in my experience, I felt they wanted me to excel in learning not just the how of adjusting but also the when and when not to adjust the animals. It is a course that I would recommend to doctors who are interested in expanding their scope of practice with the most up to date information that is available. The small classes guarantee you tons of hands on time, a lot of attention from the instructors, whether you like it or not. I started this program with what I thought was an understanding of chiropractic. The program is not designed or intended to be just a set of classes on techniques; If the horse / dog is doing XYZ you adjust the PSIS on the right and ...”. This course is great for giving you tools to integrate musculoskeletal and neurological problems and come up with a plan on how to treat a patient. You are given enough information to protect yourself from drowning in a sea of information on the emerging field of “functional neurology”. I think Dr. Rivera, Michelle and the instructors are proud of the students and the school, and want to produce a group of Veterinarians and Chiropractors that they would readily recommend to work on an animal.
